Certified, Reliable & Experienced Arborists on the Gold Coast and Tweed Heads

Residential Tree Trimming Experts

Many people are hesitant to take tools to their trees and cut back branches in the name of preserving tree health. However, tree trimming and proper maintenance can actually promote better health over time when done by a trained arborist. Professionals can tell which limbs might be hindering growth, fostering disease, or draining a tree of its resources. Not only that, but careful tree trimming can leave your trees looking brand new and add to your garden’s appeal.

Tree trimming takes an experienced hand, and there’s none more experienced in Gold Coast and Tweed Heads gardens than Jason Killick and the team at Killick Tree Maintenance. We’re highly skilled at a variety of arboricultural services and understand the nuances and rules governing the precious ecosystem here in Queensland. There’s no tree too big or too small for our trimming services.

The many benefits of tree trimming

In some cases, it can be pretty clear that you need some tree trimming done on your property. Perhaps you have a few pesky branches that are impinging on the space in your garden. Or you have some older trees and there are signs of deadwood on a few limbs that can lead to disease or hazards during storms. These are obvious signs that a bit of trimming could do your trees a wealth of good.

But tree trimming has a lot of other benefits too, even for trees that might look perfectly fine to the untrained eye. To start with, an arborist can take a look at a tree and identify any branches that are dying and taking away valuable resources from healthier parts of the tree. Removing these before they become problematic can also help prevent additional decay. This can also help prevent insects and pests from taking up residence and becoming a nuisance.

Gold Coast and Tweed Heads Arborists can also evaluate whether tree branches are competing for space and sunlight and help trim back small portions to allow other branches a chance at healthier growth. Selective tree trimming also allows for better sun and air circulation throughout the tree, which can lead to better overall health.

Then there is the aesthetic side of things. Tree trimming can help open up access to sunlight not just for your trees but also for your garden as a whole. It can also make the space seem bigger or more open when certain limbs are removed for designer reasons.

Types of tree trimming

Trimming is more than simply cutting back branches and growth. It’s about taking a knowledgeable look at the growth patterns and overall health of the tree and making decisions to help the tree thrive moving forward. To that end, there are a few different approaches to trimming that an arborist will take:

  • Thinning is where branches are removed to help with light and air movement through the tree.
  • Raising, or lifting, happens when branches are removed from the lower part of the tree to allow for more space underneath.
  • Cleaning, or pruning, is the removal of dead and dying branches to help restore the health of a tree.
  • Reducing occurs when the overall height of the tree is lowered, usually to accommodate powerlines.

How long does tree trimming take?

This is going to depend on a number of factors specific to your project and your tree(s). For example, the more branches and trimming work that need to be done, the longer the project will take to complete. That said, you might have noticed a few dead branches that need to come down, but a trained arborist might have more suggestions and additional limbs in mind when they set about to the actual trim work.

Another factor is accessibility. It can take longer for an arborist to trim tree branches that are higher up because more equipment and time are needed to access them in the first place. Safety is a priority when it comes to tree trimming, from the technician who is going up in the tree to do the actual work to the safe cutting and removal of the branch(es) in question.

Overall, you can expect to have your tree trimmed in just a few hours.

Why should I go with a professional for tree trimming?

We get this question a lot, and it makes sense since taking down a few branches sounds simple when you word it that way. However, there are a lot of factors to consider when trimming trees.

  1. Safety: The professionals will have the right equipment to get the job done right and safely from personnel to property.
  2. Understanding: Arborists understand tree growth and can make better decisions about trimming and the type that’s best for your tree.
  3. Assessment: Arborists are also going to be able to assess or spot other concerns that an untrained homeowner might not notice.
  4. Permission: Some councils require permission to trim large trees or native species and having a professional on your side can help with this process.

Debris: Most arborists will also cover clean up in their fee and haul away cuttings for you.

How much does tree trimming cost on the Gold Coast and Tweed Heads?

When it comes to trimming, prices will vary quite a bit. That’s because, just like how long the job takes, there are quite a few factors that come into play.

Larger trees will cost more to trim because more equipment and time are needed to get the job done right. Also, trees that require more trimming overall will take more time, too. Labour and time spent are usually the largest factors when it comes to estimating a tree trimming project. You might pay just $250 for a tree that’s only one story tall, but an extra large tree that’s over three stories will be closer to $1,000 to trim.

Access is also important. If it’s hard to get to the tree or it’s a very tall tree that requires a lot of safety equipment to reach, you’ll probably be looking at paying a bit more.

The type of trimming you need will also determine how long a job could take. For example, cleaning up a few dead branches is a much more straightforward task than thinning out a tree overall.

In the end, you should request a quote from a certified arborist for your tree trimming project to have the best idea of how much to expect to pay. However, on average, tree trimming costs fall between $450-$800.

What to look for in a Sunshine Coast arborist

Experience is going to be key when you are ready to choose an arborist for your tree trimming job. Ask how long they have been in business and actively working in the industry. You’ll also want to find out whether they are actually a certified arborist or just a lawn service that also provides tree trimming assistance. The former is much more likely to provide you with a quality experience and do the best possible for the health of your trees. Lawn maintenance programs are usually just available to remove branches as directed without giving extra thought to the impact or other ways to improve vitality in your trees.

You’ll also want to be sure to choose someone who has the right equipment. Don’t trust anyone who doesn’t have the right trucks, hydraulic boom (or lift), chippers, and appropriate safety tools.
